History of the Trophy

The first FIFA World Cup Trophy was awarded in 1930 to Uruguay, the winner of the inaugural tournament. The trophy was designed by French sculptor Abel Lafleur. The current trophy was introduced in 1974 and has been awarded to the winners of every World Cup since then.

Name of Winners

The name of the winning team is engraved on the bottom side of the trophy. The most successful team in World Cup history is Brazil, which has won the trophy five times. Other multiple winners include Germany and Italy, which have each won the trophy four times. France and Uruguay have each won the trophy twice.
